今日の「聴き比べ」は『ならず者(Desperado)』です。
この曲はご存じ、イーグルス(Eagles)の１９７３年のセカンドアルバム『ならず者(Desperado)』のタイトル曲です。このアルバムは「テキーラ・サンライズ」や「ドゥーリン・ダルトン」など名曲が詰まったアルバムでした。
イーグルスがまだまだ絶大なる人気を得る前のアルバムでした。このアルバムは一見地味な感じを与えますが、カントリーロックと本格的なロックに向かう過渡期のアルバムでとても気に入っているアルバムです。この曲も静かな雰囲気の曲でドン・ヘンリーのしわがれヴォーカルがとても合っています。

そしてこの曲をカバーしたのがイーグルスとはきっても切り離せない、リンダ・ロンシュタッド(Lind Ronstadt)です。リンダ・ロンシュタットの同じ年の１９７３年のアルバム『Dont Cry Now』で取り上げました。
イーグルスは元はリンダ姉御のバックバンドでした。このアルバムでもグレン・フレイがレコーディングに参加しています。カントリー色がまだまだ強かった頃のアルバムです。
この曲は他にも多くのミュージシャンにカバーされ、スタンダード化しています。
カーペンターズ(Carpenters)は１９７５年のアルバム『緑の地平線(Horizon)』でカバーしました。なぜかタイトルが「愛は虹の色」になっていました。
しっとりとしたメロディーは心が落ち着きます。
