今日の「聴き比べ」は私の大好きな曲『この世の果てまで(The End of the World)』です。
この曲は１９６２年のヒット曲と言いますから、私が聴いたのはずっと立ってからのことです。このメロディがたまらなく好きです。
歌っていたのはスキータ・デイヴィス(Skeeter Davis)です。彼女の最大のヒット曲です。もともとはカントリーの歌手でその後ポップス界にも進出しました。２００４年に亡くなっています。
この曲は１００万枚を超える大ヒットとなりました。そして多くの人がカバーしました。作詞者のディー・シルヴィアの父親が亡くなった悲しみを詩にした歌です。
