今日の「聴き比べ」は『ウィ・アー・オール・アローン(We′re All Alone)』です。
この曲はボズ・スキャッグス(Boz Scaggs)の６枚目のアルバム『シルク・ディグリーズ(Silk Degrees)』に収められた曲です。ボズ・スキャッグスは元は旧友のスティーヴ・ミラー・バンドのメンバーでしたが、１９６９年にソロに転向します。ファーストアルバムではデュアン・オールマンを迎えブルー色の強いアルバムを出しました。このアルバムも大好きです。その後もＲ＆Ｂ系のアルバムを出しますがいまいち商業的にはパットしませんでした。
転機は１９７４年のアルバム『スローダンサー(Slow Dancer)』あたりでしたでしょうか。それまでの泥臭さは消えて、都会的に洗練された音楽に変身しました。
そして１９７６年に発表された『シルクディグリーズ』が大ヒットアルバムとなりました。「ロウ・ダウン」をはじめ「ジョージア」「ハーバーライト」「リド・シャッフル」そして「ウィ・アー・オール・アローン」と佳曲が揃いました。全米第２位まで上り詰めました。もともとサンフランシスコでは人気者でしたがこれで全国区になりました。そして１９７８年には日本公演が実現しました。私も日本武道館に駆け付けました。
この曲はもともとレコードの日本盤では「二人だけ」というタイトルが付けられていました。しっとりとした名曲です。

そして、ボズ以上にヒットしたのがリタ・クーリッジ(Rita Coolidge)バージョンです。リタのアルバム『Anytime... Anywhere』でのカバーです。ビルボードで７位になりました。この日本盤ではタイトルが「みんな一人ぼっち」になっていました。このアルバムは「ハイヤー・アンド・ハイヤー」が売れましたが、それに次いでこの曲が売れました。
