今日の「聴き比べ」は『セント・ジェームス病院(St. James Infirmary)』です。
私がこの曲を知ったのは浅川マキさんの５枚目のアルバム『裏窓 MAKI Ⅴ』で聴いた時でした。
しかし、元歌はアメリカの古い楽曲で作者も不明ということになっていましたが、ジョー・プリムローズ(Joe Primrose)という人が作詞・作曲の登録をしているようです（Wikipediaより）。
ルイ・アームストロングほか、多くのジャズ・ミュージシャンがカバーしています。とても悲しい内容の詩です。勿論メロディも悲しげです。
