今日の「聴き比べ」は『悪いあなた(You're No Good)』です。
私などはこの曲をリンダ・ロンシュタッド(Linda Ronstadt)によって知りましたが、元をたどると１９６３年のディー・ディー・ワーウィック(Dee Dee Warwick)が歌ったのが始まりでした。ディー・ディーはディオンヌ・ワーウィックの妹です。ホイットニー・ヒューストンとは従姉妹同士でホイットニーは彼女に虐待を受けていたという話もあります。
同年、ベティ・エヴェレット(Betty Everett)が録音すると、これがヒットしました。ビルボードの５１位に入りました。キャッシュボックスのＲ＆Ｂ部門では５位を記録しました。
さらに、１９６４年にはイギリスのロック・バンド、スウィンギング・ブルー・ジーンズ(The Swinging Blue Jeans)が全英チャートの３位を記録しました。
そして、１９７４年、リンダ・ロンシュタッドのアルバム『悪いあなた(Heart Like A Wheel)』でこの曲をカバーしました。ステージでは以前から歌っていました。曲はシングルカットされ、見事にビルボードの１位を飾り、１９７５年と７６年にグラミー賞を受賞しました。
