ミーナ(Meena)のセカンド『Feel Me』入手

ミーナ・クライル(Meena Cryle)のセカンド・アルバム『Feel Me』をようやく入手しました。

以前から、中古で見つけたら買おうと思っていましたが、なかなか見つからず、その内すっかり忘れていました。それがひょんなことから格安で見つかったのです。即買いでした。

彼女は以前のブログでも書きましたが素晴らしいブルース・シンガーです。ファースト・アルバムとサード・アルバムは見つけたのですが、このセカンドがなかなか見つかりませんでした。ラッキーでした。

彼女のプロフィールは以前のブログで書いていますので参考までに。珍しいオーストリア出身です。このアルバムは２０１２年の作品です。

このセカンド・アルバムはブルースのみならず様々なジャンルの曲が聴けます。ブルースシンガーという範疇には収まらないシンガーです。逆に言うとこのアルバムはちょっとまとまりに欠けるということでしょうか。それでも彼女の歌唱力は堪能できます。

訃報 ディッキー・ベッツ(Dickey Betts) 逝く！

今朝の新聞でリチャード・ディッキー・ベッツ(Richard Dickey Betts)が亡くなったことを知らされました。８０歳でした。慢性閉塞性肺疾患と癌ということでした。

これであのオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンド(The Allman Brothers Band)の創設メンバーはデュアン、ベリー、グレッグ、ブッチが亡くなって、ジェイモを除いて全員逝ってしまいました。一つの時代が終わった感があります。

サザンロックという1つのジャンルを築き上げた偉大なるバンドでした。

ディッキー・ベッツは１９４３年、フロリダ州の生まれです。元々父親の影響で子供の頃はブルーグラスなどを好み、バンジョーやマンドリンを弾いていました。後にブルースに触れ、ベリー・オークリー(Berry Oakley)と知り合い、バンドを組み、そしてデュアン・オールマン(Duan Allman)と運命的な出会いでオールマン・ブラザーズ・バンドを結成します。バンドではデュアンとのツイン・リードギターで活躍しました。

セカンド・アルバムの『Idlewild South』の中の「エリザベス・リードの追憶」はディッキーの最初の作で７分近いインストナンバーで、ライブでの定番にもなりました。

１９７１年にデュアンが交通事故で亡くなると、ディッキーはデュアンに代わってリーダー的存在になりました。バンドの代表作として有名な『フィルモア・イースト・ライブ』はまだデュアンが生きている頃のライブでしたが、次作の『イート・ア・ピーチ』は製作途中でデュアンが亡くなったため、ディッキーが中心となって完成させました。このアルバムの中の「Les Brers In A Minor」や「Blue Sky」はディッキー作の名曲です。この辺りからディッキーのカントリー志向が顔を出してきました。

そして１９７３年の『ブラザーズ＆シスターズ(Brothers And Sisters)』が全米ナンバーワンの大ヒットアルバムとなりました。中でもディッキーの「ランブリンマン」が大ヒットしました。まさにカントリーソングでした。この頃にはグレッグとディッキーの棲み分けがはっきりとしていました。

そしてこの二人の仲が怪しくなり、１９７６年にバンドは最初の解散をします。ディッキーは自らのバンドDickey Betts & Great Southern を結成し、２枚のアルバムをリリースします。

１９７８年にはグレッグとの和解が成立し、オールマン・ブラザーズは再結成し、１９８１年までに３枚のアルバムをリリースします。

ところが再びバンドは解散。ディッキーはソロアルバムや自身の新しいバンドDickey Betts Bandを結成し活動します。そして１９８９年に２度目の再結成が実現します。この時はディッキーのバンドに在籍していたウォーレン・ヘインズ(Warren Hynes)とアレン・ウッディ(Allen Woody)が一緒に参加し、最強のメンバーが揃いました。

しかし、２０００年にディッキーはメンバー間のトラブルでバンドを追われることになりました。スタジオ作としては１９９４年の『Where It All Begins』が最後となりました。

その後はライブ中心の活動を続けていました。ライブアルバムは何枚かリリースされています。オールマンブラザーズ時代のライブ音源も数えきれないくらい発表されています。

今、彼らのファースト・アルバムから聴き直しています。

ロックが輝いていたた１９６０年代、７０年代を彩ったミュージシャンたちが次々と亡くなっていきます。なんとも寂しいかぎりです。これ以上訃報記事は書きたくないものですね。

今日の「聴き比べ」はビートルズ(The Beatles)の『オブ・ラ・ディ、オブ・ラ・ダ(Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da)』です。

しつこくビートルズです。日本でも大ヒットした曲です。毎日のようにラジオから流れていました。

この曲を最初に聴いた時に「オブ・ラ・ディ、オブ・ラ・ダ」ってなんだ？と思いました。これはアルバムにも参加したナイジェリアのコンガ奏者のジミー・スコットがよく口にしていた言葉だそうです。この曲、何故か本国イギリスとアメリカでは当時シングル発売が無かったようです。日本などではシングルで大ヒットしましたが、アメリカでシングルカットされたのはなんと１９７６年でした。

その代わりにイギリスのバンド、マーマレード(Marmalade)がカバーし大ヒット、全英No.1に輝きました。

映画『ビヨンド・ユートピア 脱北』を観る

先日のキネ旬シアターは『ビヨンド・ユートピア 脱北』でした。

監督：マドレーヌ・ギャヴィン

製作：２０２３年  アメリカ合衆国　２０２４年  日本公開

北朝鮮から韓国に亡命しようとする家族と、彼らに協力する人々に密着したドキュメンタリー映画です。

韓国で脱北者を支援する牧師のキム・ソンウンはこれまでに１０００人以上の脱北者を支援してきました。その彼の今度の使命は自分は韓国に住み、１７歳の息子を脱北させるという母親の依頼、そしてもう一つは幼い子供２人と８０台の老人を含む５人家族を一度に脱北させるという危険な仕事でした。

キム牧師は各地に潜む支援者５０人ものブローカーと連携し、中国、ベトナム、ラオスを経由して韓国を目指すという決死の脱出作戦が開始されます・・・。

１７歳の息子の脱北は失敗します。そしてもう一組の家族は中国からベトナム、そしてラオスのジャングルを通過して無事にタイに入国し、韓国へと移送されました。

北朝鮮の実態や脱北のことは何冊かの書籍を読んである程度の知識はありましたが、映像で見るとその過酷さが伝わってきます。この映像はブローカーのカメラで撮影隊が同行したわけではありません。スマホの映像もありました。それらがかえって迫力のある映像になっています。

脱北した人たちのインタビューでは一様にできるのなら故郷に居たかった。故郷が大好きだと述べています。その彼らに故郷を捨てる決意をさせる政治とは一体なんだろう、との疑問が湧きます。彼らの生活は経済的には勿論どん底、思想的には抑圧され、拘束されれば拷問。その映像も衝撃的です。

今日の「聴き比べ」はジョー・ウォルシュ(Joe Walsh)の『ロッキー・マウンテン・ウェイ(Rocky Mountain Way)』です。

この曲はジョー・ウォルシュが１９７２年にジェイムス・ギャング(James Gang)を退団した後に作ったバンド、バーンストーム(Barnstorm)時代に作った曲です。

１９７３年にジョー・ウォルシュ名義のセカンド・アルバムとしてリリースされた『The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get』に収録されました。

この曲の名義にはバーンストームのメンバーが名前を連ねています。ケニー・パサレリ、ジョニー・ヴァイタル、ロック・グレイスです。しかし、ファーストアルバムの『バーンストーム』も名義はジョー・ウォルシュになっています。

ジョー・ウォルシュはご存じの通り、その後イーグルスに加入しました。イーグルス初来日の時には直前に退団したバーニー・レドンの代わりに来日しました。
