今日の聴き比べは２曲です。ビートルズ(The Beatles)とアレサ・フランクリン(Aretha Franklin)による『レット・イット・ビー(Let It Be)』と『エリナ・リグビー(Eleanor Rigby)』です。
実は先日もお伝えした「生前整理」の一環でレコード棚を整理していると、いろいろなレコードが見つかるのですが、その中にアレサ・フランクリンのレコードが何枚か出てきました。それらを眺めていると、彼女が多くのカバー曲を歌っていたのが思い出されました。
このブログの「聴き比べ」シリーズでも書いた『明日にかける橋』や『ダーク・エンド・オブ・ストリート』などもカバーしていたのですが、記事を書いた時には思い出せず残念なことをしてしまったと後悔しています。
そんな彼女のアルバムの中の１枚に『ジス・ガール(This Girl's in Love With You)』という１９７０年リリースのアルバムがあります。
１９６７年にそれまでのコロムビアからアトランティックへ移籍して一気にスターダムにのし上がって、移籍後６枚目のアルバムでした。この中には先ほどのチップ・モーマンとダン・ペンによる『ダーク・エンド・オブ・ストリート』もカバーされています。これはフライング・ブリット・ブラザーズのカバーが最高です。
そしてビートルズの曲も２曲カバーしているのです。

それにしても最近の忘れっぽさには呆れます。忘れっぽいのは仕方ないにしても、思い出すのに時間がかかりすぎます。特に名前など固有名詞が出てきません。
生前整理もやってみるもんですね。
