今日の「聴き比べ」は『監獄ロック(Jailhouse Rock)』です。
この曲は言わずと知れたエルヴィス・プレスリー(Elvis Presley)の大ヒット曲です。作者はジェリー・バトラー(Jerry Leiber)とマイク・ストーラー(Mike Stoller)のコンビで。このコンビはこれまたロックンロールの大定番『ハウンド・ドッグ』の作者でもあります。
１９５７年に発売されると英米でチャート１位を記録しました。そして映画化もされました。主演はもちろんエルヴィスです。
日本でも１９５０年代後半からのロカビリー全盛期に多くの歌手がカバーしました。
