今年最初の「聴き比べ」はフィフス・ディメンション(The Fifth Dimension)の『輝く星座/レット・ザ・サンシャイン・イン(Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In)』です。
１９６９年に大ヒットした曲です。ミュージカル『ヘアー』の挿入歌として使われました。６週連続全米１位。グラミー賞の最優秀レコード賞・ポップ・パフォーマンス賞を受賞しました。ラジオから流れない日はありませんでした。
フィフス・ディメンションは１９６６年の結成のコーラス・グループで現在も活動を続けています。１９６７年にママス＆パパスの「青空を探せ(Go Where You Wanna Go)」をカバーしたのがヒットし、続いてジミー・ウェブの「ビートでジャンプ(Up-Up And Away)」、そして翌年にはローラ・ニーロの「Stoned Soul Picnic」が続けてヒットしました。
そして１９６９年に『輝く星座/レット・ザ・サンシャイン・イン』で見事全米１位を獲得したのです。
