今日の「聴き比べ」はジョン・デンバー(John Denver)でヒットした『故郷へかえりたい(Take Me Home, Country Roads)』です。別名「カントリー・ロード」とも呼ばれていました。
彼の１９７１年のアルバム『Poems, Prayers & Promises』に収録されました。この曲は全米でも２位となる大ヒットでしたが、日本でも大ヒットしました。この曲によってジョン・デンバーは多く知られるようになりました。アメリカではウェスト・バージニア州の州歌にもなったそうです。ただし、実際に歌詞に登場するブルー・リッジ山脈やシェナンドー川はウェストバージニア州ではなく隣のバージニア州がメインなのだそうで、ジョン・デンバーはそれを知らず作ってしまったようです。
ラグビーのワールドカップの時には日本チームの歌にもなりました。「ビクトリーロード」です。
