今日の「聴き比べ」は『After The Thrill Is Gone』です。
１９７５年のイーグルス(Eagles)の４枚目のアルバム『呪われた夜(One of These Nights)』に収録された、比較的地味な曲ですが私の大好きな曲です。グレン・フレイ(Glenn Frey)とドン・ヘンリー(Don Henley)による曲です。

この曲をタニヤ・タッカー(Tanya Tucker)が１９７６年の５枚目のアルバム『Lovin' And Learnin』でカバーしました。
タニヤ・タッカーは７０年台半ばに日本でも人気になったカントリー系の女性シンガーです。コーヒーのＣＭソング「ハロー・ミスター・サンシャイン」などが日本でヒットしましたが、本国アメリカでは多大な人気を誇ったシンガーです。
１９７２年に１３歳でデビューしました。アルバム『Delta Dawn』は大ヒットし、同名のシングルもヒットし、以降彼女はカントリー界のスターとして君臨しました。８０年代になるとやや低迷しましたが、現在でもアルバムをリリースして活躍中です。まだ６１歳です。
てっきりあると思っていた映像が、残念ながらありませんでした。代わりと言っては何ですが、同じイーグルスの軽快なナンバー『All Ready Gone』を載せます。

イーグルスはこのアルバムを最後にバーニー・リードン(Bernie Leadon)が脱退します。バーニーはグレン・フレイとドン・ヘンリーがバンド内で独裁的になっていき、音楽的にもカントリーロックから産業ロックに向かうことに抵抗感があり、いざこざが絶えなくなり、とうとう脱退しました。初来日の時にはバーニーはいませんでした。残念だった記憶が残ります。後任はジェイムス・ギャング(James Gang)のジョー・ウォルシュ(Joe Walsh)でした。
この後イーグルスはお化けアルバム『ホテル・カリフォルニア』をリリースしますが、メンバー間のトラブルは絶えず、やがて終焉を迎えます。
このアルバムの最後にはバーニーが当時の恋人パティ・デイヴィス（ロナルド・レーガンの娘）と作った曲『安らぎによせて(I Wish You Peace)』が収められています。この曲を聴いた時に、「ああバーニーは辞めるんだな」と直感しました。そして案の定、辞めました。この曲はメンバーに対する別れの歌だったのでしょう。
