今日の「聴き比べ」は『悲しき願い(Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood)』です。
『悲しき願い』と言えば私などは真っ先にジ・アニマルズ(The Animals)ですが、この曲は１９６４年にニーナ・シモン(Nina Simone)が最初にレコーディングした曲です。今ではスタンダードとなって多くの人達がカバーしています。

まずは本家本元、ニーナ・シモンから。雰囲気がありますね。聴けば聴くほど味わい深いです。私の持っているレコードには残念ながら入っていませんでした。

続いては大ヒットしたジ・アニマルズです。

エリック・バードンがアニマルズを辞めて、１９７４年に自身のバンド『エリック・バードン・バンド(The Eric Burdon Band)』を結成し、ファーストアルバム『Sun Secrets』をリリースしました。８分にわたるメドレーに仕立て上げました。スローテンポの「悲しき願い」です。これもまたカッコいいです。

そして、またまたカッコいいのがゲイリー・ムーア(Gary Moore)です。１９８４年のアルバム『Dirty Fingers』でカバーしています。これは絶品です。ボーカルはチャーリー・ハーン(Charlie Huhn) です。

１９７７年にはサンタ・エスメラルダでディスコ・バージョンで大ヒットしました。哀愁漂うフラメンコ・ギターがいいです。
日本では何といってもこの人しかいません。尾藤イサオです。ロカビリー時代の人です。このバージョンは日本でも大流行でした。「誰のせいでもありゃしない。みんな俺らが悪いのさ」は流行語でした。
