この曲のオリジナルは盲目のブルースマンであり牧師のレヴァランド・ゲイリー・デイビス(Rev. Gary Davis)です。伝説のブルースマンです。ブルースのブームが訪れる１９６０年代までは極貧の生活でした。独自のギター奏法を編み出し、多くのブルースマン、ロッカー達に影響を与えました。

この曲をグレイトフル・デッド(Grateful Dead)が１９６９年の２枚組のライブアルバム『Live Dead』でカバーしました。ガルシア親分の決して上手いとは言えないボーカルは別として、そのギターはいかにもガルシア親分で一聴でそれと判ります。１０分にも及ぶ熱演で、思わず唸りました。

そしてグレイトフル・デッドと並びサンフランシスコの二大巨頭と言われたジェファーソン・エアプレイン(Jefferson Airplane)の分派であるホット・ツナ(Hot Tuna)が、これまたファーストアルバムでライブの『ニューオリンズ・ハウスのホット・ツナ(Hot Tuna)』でカバーしました。
ホット・ツナは当初ヨーマ・コウコネン(Jorma Kaukonen,g)とジャック・キャシディ(Jack Casady,b)がジェファーソン・エアプレインのサイド・プロジェクトとして始めました。彼らはジェファーソンのステージに立って、終了すると今度はホット・ツナとしてステージに上がる、そんな感じでライブ活動をしていましたが、１９７２年頃には完全に分離しました。その後ジェファーソンは正式に解散し、ジェファーソン・スターシップ(Jefferson Starship)として再出発します。ホット・ツナバンドとして活動を継続しました。
このファーストアルバムはまだジェファーソンに在籍中の１９６９年にヨーマとジャックがバークレーのニューオリンズ・ハウスでのアコースティック・ライブの模様を録音したものです。おそらく小さなホールだったのでしょう。コップの割れる音なども入っており、ライブの雰囲気が伝わってきます。
このアルバムで『Death Don't Have No Mercy』をカバーしました。ヨーマはゲイリー・デイヴィスにも影響を受けておりこの曲をカバーしたのだと思います。オリジナルに忠実な感じです。鼻にかかったヨーマのボーカルは特徴的です。ギターはさすがです。
