明けましておめでとうございます。今年も拙いブログにお付き合いのほど、宜しくお願いいたします。
さて、新春一発目の「聴き比べ」は『ザ・グレート・プリテンダー(The Great Pretender)』です。
この曲は１９５５年のプラターズ(The Platters)のヒット曲ですが、私などは当然知る由もありませんでした。プラターズのプロデューサー、バック・ラム(Buck Ram)の作った曲です。１９５６年にはＲ＆Ｂチャートとポップ・チャート両方で１位になりました。

この曲を私が初めて聴いたのは、ザ・バンド(The Band)のカバーアルバム『ムーンドッグ・マチネー(Moondog Matinee)』によってでした。この曲は即気に入りました。そしてこれがプラターズの曲だと知って、それから本家を聴いたのでした。

それからライチャス・ブラザーズ(The Righteous Brothers)も歌っていたことを知って買いました。『Greatest Hits』です。これはヒット曲目白押しでお得でした。ついでにもう１枚買ってしまいました。ずいぶん昔の話です。ソウル系はあまり熱心には聴きませんが、彼らのアルバムは気に入っています。

そしてクイーン(Queen)のフレディ・マーキュリー(Freddie Mercury)がカバーして再びヒットしました。
