今日の聴き比べは『バス・ストップ(Bus Stop)』です。
この曲はご存じの通り１９６６年のホリーズ(The Hollies)の大ヒット曲です。曲を作ったのは後に１０ｃｃを結成するグレアム・グールドマン(Graham Gouldman)です。
ホリーズはアラン・クラーク(Allan Clarke,vo,g)とグラハム・ナッシュ(Graham Nash,vo,g)によって結成されたブリティッシュ・インヴェイジョンを代表するバンドでした。途中、グラハム・ナッシュがアランとの意見の違いから脱退、アメリカでクロスビー・スティルス＆ナッシュを結成、後にニール・ヤングも加わってＣＳＮ＆Ｙとなりました。
この曲はイギリスのみならずアメリカでも大ヒットしました。全米でも5位になりました。

この曲を同じくブリティッシュ・インヴェンションの立役者、ハーマンズ・ハーミッツ(Herman's Hermits)がカバーしました。いかにもソフトロックらしい演奏です。

この曲は日本でもよくカバーされました。まずはキャンディーズです。１９７４年のアルバム『危い土曜日〜キャンディーズの世界〜』に収録。このアルバムでは他にもビートルズやカーペンターズ、ママス＆パパスなどもカバーしています。今は亡きスーちゃんのリードヴォーカルです。このころはまだスーちゃんがセンターだったように記憶しています。
もう一人、荻野目洋子ちゃんがカバーしています。１９８８年のシングル『ストレンジャーtonight』のＢメンでカバーしました。彼女は「ヴィーナス」のカバーなども有名です。

そして極めつけはドッケン(Dokken)でしょう。２０１０年のベストアルバムに収録されました。これが意外なほど素直にカバーしています。
