今日の「聴き比べ」はステッペン・ウルフ(Steppenwolf)の『ワイルドでいこう(Born to Be Wild)』です。
この曲はご存じ、アメリカン・ニュー・シネマの代表作、映画『イージーライダー』のたぶん冒頭部分だったと記憶していますが、あのハーレーダビッドソンとピーター・フォンダとデニス・ホッパーの容姿、そしてこの曲のイメージがドンピシャリでぶったまげたことを憶えています。
カナダ出身のバンド、ステッペンウルフの代表作でもあります。ファーストアルバム収録です。１９７１年の最初の解散までのアルバムは悉く売れました。彼らは解散と再結成を繰り返し、現在も活動を続けています。
この曲はいわゆるロックらしいロックで、多くのバンドがカバーしました。
時代が大きく変わっていった１９７０年前後、当時の世相を代表する映画であり、曲でした。その後「ワイルドだぜ！」ってのも流行りましたね。
