今日の「聴き比べ」は『ローズ・ガーデン(Rose Garden)』です。
１９７０年にリン・アンダーソン(Lynn Anderson)の歌唱で大ヒットした、私も大好きなカントリー・ソングです。
暫くは彼女の歌唱が元歌だと思っていましたが、後からジョー・サウス(Joe South)の曲だということが分かりました。この曲が流行ったのは私が高校生の頃だったと思います。ラジオからは毎日のように流れてきました。軽快でノリがよく、声も綺麗で間違いなくヒットするだろうと思いましたが、案の定大ヒットでした。
そのオリジナルがジョー・サウス・バージョンです。ファーストアルバム『Introspect』に収録されました。ジョー・サウスはシンガー・ソングライターで主に７０年代に活躍しました。

この曲をリン・アンダーソンがカバーして大ヒットになりました。彼女の一番のヒット曲となりました。リンはカントリー・シンガーで２０１５年に亡くなっています。

そして「恋はフェニックス」などのヒットで日本でもおなじみのグレン・キャンベル(Glen Campbell) もカバーしました。彼も既に亡くなっています。

最近ではマルチナ・マクブライド(Martina McBride)もカバーしています。カントリー系のシンガーです。
