今日の「聴き比べ」は『サウンド・オブ・サイレンス(The Sound of Silence)』です。
言わずと知れたサイモン＆ガーファンクル(Simon & Garfunkel)の大出世作と言ってもいいでしょう。映画『卒業』にも挿入歌として使われ大ヒットしました。
元々は彼らの１９６４年のデビューアルバム『水曜の朝、午前3時 (Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.)』に収録されていた曲です。その後、この曲のシングルがヒットし、１９６６年のセカンドアルバム『Sound of Silence』にも収録されました。よく知られているバージョンはこちらです。このバージョンはサイモン＆ガーファンクルに黙って、エレクトリック・ギターやドラム演奏をつけてシングル発表し、これが爆発的なヒットになりました。１９６８年に『卒業-オリジナル・サウンドトラック(The Graduate)』にも収録されました。

この名曲をなんと大好きだったフランスの女優で歌手でもあるマリー・ラフォレ(Marie Laforêt)がカバーしました。映画『太陽がいっぱい』の出演で有名ですが、残念ながら昨年亡くなってしまいました。その彼女がこの曲を歌っていたのです。タイトルは「La voix du silence」です。
