今日の「聴き比べ」は 『ある愛の詩(Love Story)』です。
言わずと知れた１９７０年（日本公開は１９７１年）の大ヒット映画『ある愛の詩』のメインテーマです。世界中が涙しました。アーリー・マッグローとライアン・オニール主演、アーサー・ヒラー監督でした。音楽は今は亡きフランシス・レイでした。
この曲、ちょっと複雑でして、一番最初にシングル・リリースされたのは実はヘンリー・マンシーニだったのです。１９７０年１２月、映画の公開直前にリリースされています。そしてビルボードのイージー・リスニング・チャートで２位になりました。ホット１００では１３位でした。フランシス・レイのオリジナル・サウンドトラックが発売されたのは翌年の１月でした。こちらはイージー・リスニング２１位、ホット１００で３１位でした。
そしてさらに、この曲には歌詞があった方がよいのではということで、カール・シグマン(Carl Sigman)が詩を付けてアンディ・ウィリアムス(Andy Williams)が歌いました。これはイージーリスニングで１位、ホット１００で９位になり、結局一番売れました。
その他、トニー・ベネット(Tony Bennett)が１１４位、シャリー・バッシー(Shirley Bassey)がイギリスで３４位と、多くのカバーバージョンがヒットしました。
