今日の「聴き比べ」は『マリー・イン・ザ・モーニング(Mary in the Morning)』です。

私がこの曲を知ったのはエルヴィス・プレスリー(Elvis Presley)の映画『エルヴィス・オン・ステージ』とそのサントラ盤でした。

ところが、それ以前にすでにヒットしていたのです。それはイタリアからの移民であるアル・マルティーノ(Al Martino)という歌手がヒットさせていました。１９６７年です。ビルボードのイージー・リスニング部門で１位、ホット１００で２７位です。これがこの曲の最も売れたバージョンです。

アル・マルティーノは俳優でもありました。『ゴッド・ファーザー』にも出演していたようですが残念ながら記憶にありません。主題歌も歌っています。
