今日の「聴き比べ」はタートルズ(The Turtles)の 『ハッピー・トゥゲザー(Happy Together)』です。
タートルズ(The Turtles)はアメリカのバンドで１９６５年にレコード・デビューしています。ハワード・カイラン (Howard Kaylan,vo)を中心にマーク・ボルマン (Mark Volman,g,vo)、アル・ニコル (Al Nichol,g)、ジム・タッカー (Jim Tucker,g)、チャック・ポーツ (Chuck Portz,b)、ドン・マレー (Don Murray,ds)ら高校時代の友人６人が集まって結成されました。
デビューアルバムは『悲しきベイブ(It Ain't Me Babe)』でシングルも「悲しきベイブ」です。この曲はもちろんボブ・ディランの曲でこの他にも「ラブ・マイナス・ゼロ」や「ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン」もカバーしています。
当時、バーズ(The Byrds)やディランなどでフォーク・ロックが流行り出し、その路線に乗っかった感じでした。
この「ハッピー・トゥゲザー」は１９６７年、彼らの３枚目のアルバム『Happy Together』に収録され、全米１位の大ヒットとなりました。日本でも大ヒットしました。曲はゲイリー・ボナーとアラン・ゴードンの2人です。彼らはマジシャンズのメンバーでした。
しかし、この後はヒットに恵まれず、１９７０年に解散しました。
